A Busy Day in the Black Forest

September 5

Genealogy enthusiast Ken Temple has researched his German ancestors back several centuries. One of his lines comes from ‘Baden,’ and he knows they lived in the ‘Weinland,’ but that is as far as his knowledge extends. Further research is possible but not really convenient. And so today, just to get the feel for the landscape, we took a long and rambling drive over tiny roads up and over the high hills of the Black Forest, through cool and shady pine forests, past sawmills and fruit stands operating on the honor system, painted cows and finally to a charming village where we tasted local wine and bought bottles to take home and to give away later in the trip to relatives we are meeting in other parts of Germany. Gorgeous, uncommonly warm weather and a cloudless sky helped us enjoy this beautiful corner of Germany.
