I have noticed a disturbing trend here in Europe over the past several months. Young Americans, under the age of 17, so plugged in and addicted to the online experience that they are completely unaware – and uncaring – about the world around them. I witnessed young people desperately seeking a wireless signal for their devices in a postcard-perfect town on the historic Rhein River. They sat on a bench opposite a hotel and complained outloud that the signal was too weak to view videos on YouTube. What about hiking up to that 13th century castle? Who cares. Where can I get Facebook updates? This is really a sad commentary on the future of our society.
